Susan Lewis is a British author who has written a novel ‘No Child Mine’. A reading of this book shows she is a fearless and brave author who has presented a novel on the unspoken horrors in this world. The fact that she is one of England’s top selling novelists is another feather in her cap. Susan has published 28 books earlier carving a niche for herself in the world of literature..

She has now produced a novel No Child Mine which is a disturbing story that brings out the horrors of child abuse and neglect. This is a sensitive theme requiring a sympathy treatment and Susan carries herself with aplomb in her presentation of her story.

Showcasing Darkest Recesses of Human Mind

Susan has the distinction of showcasing the darkest corners of the human psyche in all her books. She writes bringing her own traumatic experiences forward to give the reader a tale that will make him think. The result is 'No Child of Mine' that explores the recesses of the human mind. She presents a tale that is both engrossing and tingling.

The story revolves around Alex Lake a young lady who sees a small girl in a park. She cannot get the girl of her mind as she realizes that something unnatural existed about the girl and her guardian. The girl Otalie Ward who is almost mute is assigned to Alex and then Susan starts her magic as a writer. She has a feeling that the girl may be in danger, but nobody believes Alex as the father of the girl is a respected primary school teacher.

Alex brings out the depraved mask that covers the evil and takes the law into her own hand. She is well aware that sometimes this mask covers erudite and cultured people. Susan in the process writes a trilling tale. It is not a thriller, but a novel that explores the darkest recesses of the human mind, something about which people feel constrained to talk –child abuse.

The novel is a hard hitting story and Susan deserves credit for thoughtfully projecting a tale in a sensitive manner. The subject is no doubt grim, but it engrosses the reader. Susan conveys to the reader that redemption is available for all with love and kindness.

Last Word

This novel runs into 560 pages and can be termed voluminous. But at no stage does the reader feels that the book is dragging or the story stagnating. This is a tribute to the pen of Susan Lewis. Susan was born in 1956 and is now 57 years old. She is a top class novelist who has built up a niche of her own in the literary field. She deserves accolades for writing on a dark and forbidden subject that captivates the reader.
